mirror tic tac toe by Shahar Peleg
Is there any other game you can feel so stupid at when you lose?

I never understood why the standard tic tac toe wasn’t a matrix of four or five, at least that way it wouldn’t always end in a tie; of course then the game would have to be called tic tac toe te tum or something like that.  Really, the only time you ever win is when you’re challenging an infant, a downy, or Keanu Reeves.

The reflective design of this tacky game features half X’s and O’s which become “whole” once they’re placed on the board.  Definitely an interesting concept from designer Shahar Peleg.

Every Guy likes pocket watches, but no one uses them because they suck for telling time.  The Cobalt, however, is a synergistic blend of the past and present; an “un”antiquated time piece, if you please.  Best of all the Cobalt can withstand temperatures of up to 1495°C.
The Cobalt’s round LED touch screen is envisaged as showing time, date, temperature, voicemail updates, email and text.  I assume the integrated Bluetooth technology will work in conjunction with a cell phone, but who knows.
Designer Adam Huffman also plans on fully customizable screen settings; anywhere from simple analog hands to a full on digital display.  The concept wouldn’t be complete without an MP3 player and video player, so those are in the blueprints as well.

bulletproof table

No, this isn’t a free table from Craig’s List. Designer Aviad Gil created the bulletproof table as part of his “Conflict collection”, apparently he’s spent some time in the Gaza Strip. Talk about fun in shop class, the engineers get to shoot a piece of bulletproof glass with an AK-47; I wonder if they take turns standing behind it. After playing Russian attack, they apply some epoxy and rest it on the iron frame that perfectly accents the vehement piece with its on-edge legs. This prize du jour is perfect for anyone that didn’t receive enough love as a child or is just plain homesick for Compton.

imageWhy would you want this?

I know, your parents didn’t give you enough attention as a child, so you use possessions to force fleeting glimpses of admiration from unassuming strangers in an atypical attempt to fill (if even for a microcosmic second) that void with something you call pride but we call pretentiousness.  In other words, you’re a rich prick.

Built by the 18 year old Ben J. Poss Gulak, the Uno is an electric vehicle that uses two microgyro-motors; one for turning and one for forward and backward movement.  You might remember the microgyro-motor technology from Dean Kamen’s Segway.  I’m a fan of Kamen because he’s from my home state and has the same birth day as myself; two excellent reasons to like someone.  Ben on the other hand named his two wheeled invention the “Uno”- nice job dumb ass, why didn’t you just call it the “tripod” or the “I’m a total douche bag”.

We’re just kidding Ben, we look forward to seeing what else you have in store for the future.

If you really want to confuse the coppers, ride this contraption away from the scene of your next crime.  I can see the headlines now, “16 foot unilateral insect leaves bloody footprints at shoe store robbery“.
This completely non-practical piece of equipment was created by Max Knight Design for the benefit of Intersection Magazine.  It might not be the most comfortable ride, but it will be sure to turn some heads.

Gucci Bracelet Watch Watch out!

From designer Nuno Oliveira comes a new concept design for the people that want to wear a Gucci bracelet without having to sport an additional time piece.  The bracelet has a cover that slides open to reveal a glass LED time display.  If you want to enjoy the flawless design of Gucci jewelry without the traditional look of a wrist watch, then you’ll have to hope Gucci puts this one into production.

    Twisted Radiator
The Austrian designer Marco Dessi has addressed an extremely important issue, which is of course how to live the wallpaper* life with those baseboards kickin it old school all over your pad.
Inspired by the industrial radiators of yesterday, this simple yet eye-catching model was designed to add a contemporary twist to older buildings whose fashion sense was molded in the era of shag and hula-hoops.  Each individual square on the Wall Radiator can be rotated by hand.  The end square turns the unit on and off.  Since this is only a design, I’m not really sure if it’s meant for electric, steam, or forced hot water; what I do know is that I like the idea and wouldn’t mind retro-fitting this artistic twist into my house.

Gateway building for new capital city of Ras al-Khaimah
A ridiculously over excessive architectural design and it’s not for Dubai?  Oh, don’t you worry, this was designed for one of those emirates. As a whole, the United Arab Emirates have been reinventing themselves on a global scale, with Dubai taking the lead.  As the world takes notice, the northern emirate Ras al-Khaimah wants a piece of the action.  His highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi has a master plan to build a brand new capital city for the United Arab Emirates in the middle of his desert kingdom. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the oil money of his sister emirate, but non-the-less he has commissioned world-renowned architects to invent a city from the sand up.

Toilet Pages When you don’t have your own bathroom the next best thing is toilet pages; just because you’re sharing a bathroom doesn’t mean you have to share herpes.  Toilet pages has nice iconic tabs that reminds you what task or for which person each seat is specifically designated.  Designer Jan Ctvrtnik has marked the tabs and seat layers for family use.   For instance, the first seat is designated for a toddler, but these could easily be changed to accommodate different circumstances.  If this great concept ever goes to market I imagine there will be various models to accouter common situations.

Optimus Tactus, Art Lebedev
The Optimus Tactus was the keyboard that Maximus Meridius used in the movie Gladiator.  Ok, maybe not, but it sounds like he should have.
I guess if you’re going to use a touch screen keyboard this would be it.  Oh, except for the fact that it’s only a concept at the moment.  According to the Art Lebedev Studio, here’s the plan: any part of the keyboard surface can be programmed to perform any function or display any image.  Optimus Tactus does not have physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape or size.  As per the image above, there is a video mode as well as a typing mode (shown below).
Initially this keyboard could prove costly to the consumer, considering it’s a full length touch-display.  The big question is, would you really use it?  There’s no question that it’s uber cool and could be extremely useful on specialized tasks, but I’m not sure I’d like typing on a smooth surface; my fingers need a little somethin-somethin to know their doing a good job.
By the time this thing gets to market, Apple will probably have created a shape-morphing tactile multi-display video membrane touch screen, that walks the dog on it’s spare time; or they’ll at least have the patent for one.

M. Liminal Piano, Modern Piano, NYT Line, Fazioli, Philippe Gendre

If I could make love to any piano in the world, it would probably be this one. Of course that’s a ridiculous assertion, everybody knows that piano’s reproduce asexually.
The name of this beauty is the M. Liminal and it was designed by Philippe Gendre and the NYT Line.  The instrument is made in Italy by the Fazioli Company.  If you were wondering, the design was inspired by the sea, the shape of the side evokes the profile of a wave while the black-silver colour that of silver-surfer; or a dolphin, I can’t remember which.
Take a look at the video!

tempo hard drive, garbage hard drive

Tempo was designed for all those retards that can’t operate a computer without deleting some imperative piece of data. Surprisingly these are the same individuals that don’t understand rollback or recovery features. Cagnina Design fashioned a hard drive to look like a little trash can, though the intended users may still get confused and pour coffee into it. Since this is still a concept, the idea goes as follows: as you delete files, they are automatically copied to the TEMPO. LED lights illuminate from the bottom up as the wireless hard drive begins to fill. I guess it couldn’t hurt to have this thing as a backup, especially for those people that can’t follow directions.  Of course now you’re going to be required to delete your daily porn twice.

volitan, flying fish boat, star wars like boat

The Volitan is a Star Wars-esque sail boat design by Designnobis Studio that utilizes solid wind sails and solar energy at the same time. The energy that’s harnessed from the solar panels and wind turbine are stored in a battery that can be utilized throughout the day and night. The wings actually track the sun and wind for optimal performance and in extreme whether conditions they fold up against the side of the boat. Since the Volitan is engineered to operate in winds of up to 60 knots, you’re pretty much screwed if the wings run and hide.  But if you do need to move without the sails the motors on both sides of the boat allow the Volitan to maneuver like Bryan Boitano on a cold day.

Seoul Commune 2026

Seoul Commune 2026
Why does everything that’s marked for the future have to be ostentatious and bubble like? The projections for the Seoul Commune 2026 buildings look as though they were constructed by giant honey bee’s as shelter for their larvae. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a proponent for novel design, but is that grass growing on the sides of the buildings; how does that work?
Korean society continues to grow rapidly in both technological and socio-cultural terms, therefore, the Seoul Commune 2026 has investigated the viability of an alternative and sustainable community structure in the overpopulated metropolises of the not too distant future. The imagined community is integrated within the developments of the digital and social age; which apparently suggests that humans will soon wish to live like insects.

Ring Alarm Clock, Vibrating Ring, Vibrating Alarm
A vibrating ring you wear to bed, how can this not be good? Before you get ahead of yourself, Ring is a concept design by Meng Fandi, and I desperately hope a manufacture puts it into production soon.  Here’s the idea: the charging cradle allows you to set two separate alarms, one for each of the two rings.  Before you go to sleep, just slip a ring onto your finger and a silent vibrating alarm awakens you in the morning; perfect for the hearing impaired.
The concept is also great for couples that have varying work schedules, or people like myself that don’t appreciate my girlfriend’s alarm blasting 3 hours early so that she can unconsciously slap snooze, which incidentally affords me one minute of sleep every nine minutes for the following 4 hours.  Of course, it’s then my fault I let her oversleep because that I didn’t realize she wasn’t conscious the 25 times she hit snooze; or when she yelled, “don’t touch me, I’m not in the mood!” Hopefully (for my sake) when someone does manufacture this incredibly awesome alarm clock, they’ll add a shock option for those stubborn sleepers. Unfortunately this device doesn’t work well for those punctual paraplegics; but what do they have that’s so pressing anyway?
