Wooden Clock- is wood waking you up in the morning?

[Get It $150]

wooden clock
If wood is the first thing you like to see in the morning, then you’re in luck!
Designed by Kouji Iwasaki, the Wooden LED Clock from Suck UK, appears to be a normal block of wood, until you plug it in. With a thin layer of real maple wood veneer the LED glows from the inside, creating the illusion that the time is actually hovering on the surface of the wood.
What a great clock for the nature enthusiast.

Perpetual Calendar- you have to perpetually adjust it

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The Perpetual Calendar designed by Gideon Dagan for the Museum of Modern Art has been around for a while now, but we decided to feature it for two reason’s: Number one, the name is a bit confusing as the calendar does not change date’s by itself, you must actually move the magnetic pieces every day and month, Second, because it’s still a pretty cool looking calendar.

With a magnetic ball that slides along the horizontal day board and another magnetic ball at the end of a lease to indicate the month, this extremely simple calendar design is both interesting to use and look at.  Made of injection-molded ABS plastic and magnets, it can be wall-mounted or used on a desktop in two positions.  It comes in black and red, black and silver, or blue and yellow.

Glo Pillow – a bright idea for a silent alarm

image
From designers Eoin McNally & Ian Walton comes a gentler way to wake up.  The Glo Pillow is designed to provide a more natural method of being woken opposed to the intrusive and incessant beeping of the traditional alarm clock.

Via an internal LED grid, the time is displayed on the pillow while the fabric side control unit is used to set the alarm.  Forty five minutes before the alarm is due to wake you, the pillow begins to softly glow.  The intensity of the glow increases gradually from 0 lux to 250 lux, simulating a sunrise.  At the set alarm time, the light reaches an intensity that is sufficient to naturally wake a person; this is supposedly a calmer and more natural way to start the day.  In theory this seems like a “sound” way to develop a healthy sleeping pattern tailored to your specific needs, but I’m not some hydro plant that needs to be tricked into budding off season.  If I set an alarm, I need to know that I’ll be woken up.  What happens if it’s already light in my room, or the back of my head is on the pillow?

*Great for the deaf, but does not work if you fall asleep with the light on.

GEOCHRON WORLD CLOCK- where is it noon?

[Get It $1,795]

KG Black Goatskin Sliver Trim cut
In an Ode to the days of relative time and the pursuit of precision within timekeeping, comes the Geochron World Clock*.  This electronic masterpiece celebrates the rotation of the earth around the sun as the fundamental principle behind our use of time.
Looking like a 3′x2′ framed Mercator projection of the earth, the Geochron is actually a continuous belt that slowly moves with the rotation of our planet.  The far left and right represent midnight while the middle depicts exact noon.  The date, month, and day for each side of the International Dateline are shown in a window near the bottom of the map.

The most fascinating aspect of the Geochron is the lighted pattern in the center which clearly delineates the exact portions of the earth that are illuminated by the sun.  At any instant, on any date you can look to the left edge of this pattern to follow the sunrise or watch as the moving earth falls under the right edge of sunset.  As the axis of the earth moves through the seasons, the light pattern of the Geochron gently and almost imperceptibly adjusts to the varying lengths of daylight.  This timepiece will give you a new appreciation for time.

*Comes in a variety of styles, all of which are timeless; well, not literally.

Get It $36]

danger bomb alarm clock

If you fantasize about being Jack Bauer and want to defuse a bomb every 24 hours, then you need the Danger Bomb Alarm Clock.

Wake up every morning to the sound of an explosion, the only way to make it stop is by following the color code that randomly resets each day. No more smacking the snooze button from dreamland, your brain will have to actually take in information and perform a function; a great way to force your lazy ass out of bed. If you’re middle eastern we recommend not using this device as your travel alarm unless you enjoy missing flights in exchange for hostile interrogations and cavity searches.

*It may be pertinent to note that our color blind research team found this clock particularly troublesome as did our quadriplegic test subjects.
