Have you ever ordered a decaf coffee and upon finishing, felt your heart trying to escape your body?

There’s no visual way to distinguish decaf from caffeinated coffee, and I wouldn’t quite bet on the pimply Starbucks genius whose mind is busy scratching up frivolous drama to justify an impossibly difficult pubescent existence.  If you happen to be a Dunkin Donuts fan your odd’s are even worse since they require a noticeable degree of mental deficiency for employment.

So how do you know when you’ve gotten the wrong cup-o-Joe?  Easy, you use a D+Caf tester.  These little strips from TestCountry will tell you within seconds if you’re beverage wants to attack your adenosine receptors.  Just dip a strip into a teaspoon of questionable liquid for about 5 seconds, and around 30 seconds later you’ll know whether your Barista is one cups short of a full pot.

Reminiscent of a pregnancy test except that you don’t have to piss on it (unless you want to check your own caffeine content), the D+Caf Caffeine Test Strips use two lines to indicate the presence or absence of caffeine.  If the second line (lower line closest to the arrows on the strip) is darker than the first or is the only line present, the beverage is decaf.  On the other hand, if the first line is: darker than the second, the only line present, or equal to the second line, then you have some caffeine molecules floating around.

Normally I would be against having anything digital bouncing around with my keys because it would probably get all scratched or damaged.  But for less than $20 you can’t really go wrong, plus the DP-152 is encased in a rubbery plastic coating that can withstand a drop or two and doesn’t scratch very easily.  The 1 inch sq. screen displays your color pictures in 128×128 resolution on a static or scrolling option.  It also has a clock and calendar.  It’s small enough to not be a nuisance and with a capacity of about 60 images it makes a neat little key chain.

The DP-152 charges via the USB cord used to upload pictures; it also comes with it’s own easy to use software for uploading those pictures.  Even though a resolution of 128×128 isn’t much, it’s really all you need on a small screen.  For attachment to a key ring or belt loop, the devise comes with a small lanyard and carabiner.
