For children, magnets are fantastic and magical. As adults, magnets may again prove to have special powers. Magnetic therapy is becoming more widely accepted as an alternative method of pain relief. From ancient megalith pilgrimages, to lodestone medallions, to Franz Mesmer then Arnold Palmer, to finally the Sota Magnetic Pulser, magnetic therapy has continued to grown. But what does it all mean? We decided to take a look, and here’s what we found…
Easy, yes. Cure-all, no. Effective, maybe.

I’m sure that answered all your questions but just in case go ahead and read on for more info.

We didn’t run a double blind placebo on inoculated transgenic mice or anything, but we did have two people use the Sota Magnetic Pulser once a day for 3 consecutive weeks; one on an arthritic knee and the other on a tendon injury. Both subjects found intermittent pain relief; they felt better on some days, other days seemed to make no difference. When asked whether they believed the device made a positive difference in their pain relief, they both answered yes. Physiologically, we have no idea whether the Sota Magnetic Pulser improves a person’s overall wellness or heals ailments, but we do know that if you believe you feel better, in some capacity you are better; and in most cases that’s what matters most.

The Sota Magnetic Pulser is designed to complement a healthy lifestyle. The unit outputs a time-variant pulsed DC magnetic field that penetrates tissue up to nine inches. The unit is extremely easy to operate, but depending on your intended use you should consult a doctor beforehand. Currently there is no significant scientific evidence to support the use of magnets for health benefits, although there seems to be a large enough sub-culture involved in Magnetic Therapy to warrant more investigation into this pseudoscientific therapy.

Some claims suggest that the north side of a magnetic field promotes tranquility by calming, and reducing inflammation while the south end promotes healing, and growth. This could be possible, but again there is not much in the way of scientific evidence to support the claim.
Some scientists believe that magnetic fields perturb the body’s own magnetic energy, which allows other biochemical and physiological mechanisms such as healing to take place more freely. Perhaps the most widely believed hypothesis is that magnets attract the iron held in hemoglobin which causes an increase in blood flow, bringing in more oxygen and nutrients while flushing away toxins. The major discrepancy to this thought is that the magnets used in therapy seem to be far too weak to have any measurable effect on blood flow.
In the search to explain magnetic therapy and thus validate it, other interesting suggestions have surfaced, for example: acidity or alkalinity balance, hormone production, enzyme activity, and as mentioned above, even influence over human electromagnetic energy. For me, the most interesting hypothesis of magnetic influence in the human body is with regard to calcium and other ions and minerals. The flow of calcium, potassium, magnesium and hydrogen ions play a significant role in a whole host of biological pathways.

Regardless of what you believe about magnets, one thing is for sure, magnets still hold a wonderful mystery of which you don’t have to be a child to appreciate. However, the unknown provides hope and a sense of possibility that has become a big business, so you should still act responsibly and learn the facts before experimenting. Magnetic therapy may or may not benefit you, there is always a possibility; even as a placebo. If you intend on trying magnetic therapy, we would suggest that you start out small, take the inexpensive road first to test the water before investing in more expensive products.
